Basketball Wives' Gloria Govan on Reunion Show, Twitter Beef & Shaunie

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Gloria Govan, of Basketball Wives, spoke with vibe about the Reunion Show, her fiance’s recent tweets about the cast and Shaunie. You can read the full interview here. A few excerpts are below:

On the reunion and the shows development: “I didn’t watch the [Basketball Wives] reunion because I just feel like I’m so out of the loop already not having watched the series. And I just figured I wouldn’t entertain the idea of probably having four girls talk about me while I’m not there. I’m over it.  I just felt that having been approached by Shaunie about the show so long ago and and what we initially heard the show was going to be about and how we saw them play some of the girls?it wasn’t good. There definitely wasn’t a good vibe and it wasn’t anything I wanted to be involved in. I wanted to show strong independent women that were educated and classy. I didn’t want to be involved in throwing drinks in groupies’ faces and all the other unnecessary drama. I didn’t feel like it was a good representation. I was disappointed in Shaunie and I was disappointed with how they ended up putting the whole project together.”

On her relationship with Shaunie prior to the show: I can’t say I was genuinely friends with Shaunie. I had her number in my phone but we never talked or texted or anything like that. It never really went to anything past that so I can’t say that we were really friends. We were cordial to each other. My fiancé and her husband played for the same team in Phoenix last year but even then, we didn’t really get a chance to hang out and be buddy, buddy, unless it was something major like the whole team was getting together. I think our relationship fell apart when she didn’t realize that family is family. It will always be that way with me. And I think she didn’t realize I wasn’t going to give that up to be friends with her [or] to be associated with her. I think she’s so used to people bowing down or submitting to whatever she says that when someone finally stood up and said, “I’m good with just being who I am and I love my family and I’m not going to give that up for you,” I think that kind of surprised her. She didn’t understand where I was coming from and that I wasn’t going to budge regardless of how she felt.

On her her fiance’s twitter comments: “Matt told me the gist of what he said on Twitter and I agree. I think he’s definitely very valid for what he had to say. I think it surprised him as well with how immature she’s been handling the situation. It’s just as simple as Gloria and I aren’t friends and stating her side and just leaving it at that. But I think the low blows she’s been trying to give and the ignorant comments she’s been making?I think it’s unnecessary on her end being that she’s almost 40.”

On Royce: With Royce, I think it was a lot of people in the ear with he said she said. Producers definitely tried to play it up or would tell Royce, “Gloria doesn’t want you around” or “Gloria doesn’t want you to do this.” And that wasn’t necessarily the case. I told Royce in the beginning, given Matt’s circumstances with Dwight [Howard] being on the same team?championship, team comraderie, I’m not going to jeopardize that for you so if you do want to hang out, we can do so outside of you coming to my house and getting Matt involved type of thing. In the beginning she understood but then I think people started getting into her ear and saying that it was backstabbish and it just got messy.

MJB Pushes New Singer, Starshell

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Mary J. Blige was seen recently making her rounds in NYC clubs to push new artist, Starshell, who is signed to Blige’s Matriarch Records. According to Page Six, they made some club rounds and introduced Starshell’s new single, “Superlova.”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOsFjbK-Jbg]

Exactly, who is Starshell? In the spring of 2008, Starshell (then 19 yrs old), was introduced by a friend to Kendu Isaacs, TK of Matriarch Records and Mary J. Blige’s husband.

“I fell in love with her passion and drive,” Kendu says. “I could hear what she was trying to do on her demo. I saw past the raw vocals and production. I was impressed that she did it all on her own. So I asked her if she was signed to a production company or a record label. She said, ‘no.’ I immediately told Mary.”

Days later, Starshell was in a studio with Mary and Kendu. Marsha Ambrosius of British R&B duo Floetry was there, too. The three women bonded, carrying on like old friends. An impromptu writing session ensued. A couple months later, Starshell signed with Matriarch, which then signed a promotion and distribution deal with Geffen for its new artist. Visit Starshell’s web site or follow her via twitter. ***Her photo sorta reminds me of Beyonce meets Teyana Taylor.

The Dream's Unique Parenting Quotes

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Just in time for post-Father’s Day, Essence interviews The Dream. You can read the whole interview here, but hear what he has to say about child-rearing.

ESSENCE.com: How are Christina and baby Violet?
THE-DREAM: Violet is great, I just saw her last night. She’s three months and one week old with a definite personality. I think she’s going to be a sassy talker. Right now, she’s just long, fat and looks like me. I know Christina hates it because she’s looking at the baby like “Where am I? I did all the work for nine months!”

ESSENCE.com: Do you help Christina out when you’re home?
THE-DREAM: I don’t because my “helping out” turns into expectations. I’ll get Violet on a late night maybe one or two times, but after that, no. If Christina’s tired, call the nanny, call Violet’s granny. We got people.

ESSENCE.com: Has Violet met her sister, Navy, your daughter from your previous marriage to singer, Nivea?
THE-DREAM: Navy, who’s five years old, hasn’t seen Violet yet because Christina’s been working in Los Angeles, but that’ll change for the BET Awards later this month. I may bring Navy to Los Angeles with me. She’s also full of personality, right now she’s all about herself.

ESSENCE.com: You’ve joked that you’ve stopped buying Christina gifts, and are giving them all to Violet. Still true?
THE-DREAM: Definitely. I just opened two trust funds for Violet. When my children get to a certain age they should be taken care of even though the economy is crazy right now. Most of us are just trying to hold on and handle the everyday bills. But just in case, I like having something there for my family because people in this business make a lot of money and can lose it all.

Kim Kardashian's Twitter Rant About Public Breastfeeding

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Kim Kardashian pissed a few mom’s off by tweeting about PDB (public display of breastfeeding–yes, term totally made up). She went on to clarify her statements…Peep the tweets below:

EWW Im at lunch, the woman at the table next 2 me is breast feeding her baby w no coverup then puts baby on the table and changes her diaper 10:21 PM Jun 18th via TweetGenius

Misunderstood tweet-The woman had her boobs out at restraunt yest feeding then laid her on table and changed her w the food there.Unsanitary 1:48 PM Jun 19th via TweetGenius

My sister breast feeds! Its a natural beautiful thing, there’s nothing wrong w it, but she covers herself, not w her boobs exposed 1:51 PM Jun 19th via TweetGenius

And you DON’T change a dirty at the dinner table…u use the restroom. Everyone was complaining! Just unsanitary 1:53 PM Jun 19th via TweetGenius

**I happen to agree w/ her. I don’t mind a mother feeding her child, I just have no interest in seeing her breast exposed (while lunching, tap dancing, or chatting on my cell phone). Don’t even get me started on changing a diaper at the dinner table. Granted, I have no children, so what the hell do I know?

Seinfeld "Hates" Lady Gaga, Gaga Gives the Finger

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

File this under the “random” category.

Lady Gaga left an unfavorable impression on Jerry Seinfeld at a recent Mets game. Apparently she showed up in her regular “take-me-out-to-the-ball-game” outfit–a white coat draped over a black bikini–and received lots of media attention. Gaga was not in the photo-taking-mood–gave the press her middle finger–and was escorted inside a private box. Only problem is that the box, which she did not have permission to enter, was Jerry Seinfeld’s.

Jerry told WFAN radio, during an interview, “You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we’re living in now? This woman is a jerk. I hate her. I can’t believe they put her in my box, which I paid for.”

Oh, the sound-bites don’t end there, “I don’t know what these young people think or how they promote their careers. I’m not one of these all-publicity-is-good people. People talk about ‘You need exposure’ — you could die of exposure.”

Lady Gaga responded via twitter about giving the paparazzi her middle finger: A middle finger is more New York than a corporate ambush. I bleed for my hometown, and I’d die for my fans. 2:13 PM Jun 11th via OpenBeak Retweeted by 100+ people

***Apparently, this is the same game that Gaga kissed a girl and she liked it.
