Folks Pissy @ NAACP for Honoring Kid Rock, Who Performs w/ A Confederate flag

Kid Rock’s use of the confederate has some NAACP supporters pissy. On May 1, he’s set to receive the Detroit branch’s Great Expectations Award at the annual dinner. Historically, the use or display of the Confederate flag is controversial because of it’s symbolism. Some groups like the Ku Klux Klan  and the Aryan Nation use the flag. Some supporters and southerns argue that that the flag is a symbol of southern culture without any political or racial connotation.

Adolph Mong, the head of Detroiters for Progress, is none too pleased about this. He and others plan to boycott over Kid Rock’s use of the Confederate flag during his performances. “It’s a slap in the face for anyone who fought for civil rights in this country. It’s a symbol of hatred and bigotry.” Folks from the NAACP feel differently. In a statement, Donnell R. White, interim executive director of the Detroit Branch NAACP said, “Kid Rock … has consistently lifted up the Great Expectations of many persons … concerning the future of the city.” No word from Kid Rock’s camp yet.
