[Audio] LHHA’s Stevie J Bares All: Rumors, Leaked Photos, Marriage + Creepy Faces

If you’re a fan of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, you’ve grown to love or be annoyed by the break-out star, Stevie J. He’s been in the music industry for quite some time, but most of the country discovered him on one of VH1’s record-breaking reality shows. We recently caught up with him and chatted about almost everything you wanted to know — his high profile relationships before the show (with Whoopi Goldberg’s daughter and rapper/actress Eve), his fear of commitment and the love triangle (between him, Joseline and Mimi), what he thinks about people questioning Joseline’s gender, child support rumors (he’s a proud father of 5), that infamous photo of ‘package’ (or ‘beef cake’ as he refers to it), how he feels about y’all poking fun at his interesting faces and Joseline attacking him during therapy. Check the full interview below.

People in the music industry know who you are, but some ppl were introduced to you for the first time, on LHHA. Can you give us a little background on your musical career?

I’ve been in the music industry for almost 17 years. I’ve produced and written for artist like Mariah Carey, Sean ‘P.Diddy’ Combs, Beyonce, Lil Wayne, 112, Notorious BIG, just to name a few.

We’ve seen you sing on the show and have watched you play the piano. What other instruments do you play?

Yes, I play the Piano, Guitar, base guitar, drums, xylophone trumpet saxophone, violin, the list goes on and on, whatever you put in front of me, imma make it happen. I was self-taught, no lessons at all.

I read somewhere that Puffy (Diddy), influenced you.

Absolutely, When I first started music I did some songs with Jodeci and I used to be on tour with them, and to watch the Bad Boy movement from the outside and hen meeting him and seeing what he was doing to cultivate hip hop of course he was a major influence.

Would you ever consider putting out a solo album?

Yes, I definitely would consider it, I’m getting a lot of calls from different labels right now and its something that I wanted to do years ago, but I never really felt that it was my time and divine timing is everything, so the answer is definitely, Yes.

How has your life changed, since Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta started?

I believe its put a light and let the young generation understand me as a producer and as a personality. It brought awareness to the whole industry, not just music but Television industry, food, liquor industry everyone is now familiar and familiarized with Stevie J, which is a great thing, I’m grateful.

Do you feel like how you’ve been portrayed on the show is the real you?

I am who I am, I cant be anything but me what you see is what you get.

Why do you think the show is so popular?

I believe that LHHATL is popular just because of the storyline that I bring to the table. At the end of the day, I’m not sacrificing who I am, and I wanted to bring something to the table that would kind of have an impact on American society, as we know it. That’s not the norm, of what they seeing right now, people bugged out but its really going on everyday in somebody’s life, 95% of the world’s life. I believe its successful due to real life situations and circumstances Joseline and Mimi are involved in.

Chris Brown As 'Stevie J'

Now you have some quite entertaining faces. I’ve seen celebs like Chris Brown tweet pix of your facial expressions. Have you seen that spoof they did on LHHA, with you as a Ninja Turtle? And do you embrace people making fun of your faces or does it bother you?

I love it, it cracks me up, I never cry so hard, I laugh crying at this stuff. I never thought a facial expression could change society, or make people feel a certain type of way. It’s actually a blessing to have people want to take the time out to do a cartoon and create a parody it makes me feel like, I’m doing something right.

Stevie J & Alex, Whoopi Goldberg's Daughter Circa 2008

You’ve had two very high profile relationships. One with Whoopi Goldberg’s daughter Alex. How did you meet Alex?

I met her at dinner with Vivica Fox, and she reached her hand across my ace giving Vivica a hand shake and I checked her for reaching over me and that’s how we met.

I believe that there’s always an overlying lesson when a relationship ends. What did you learn about maybe yourself or relationships, with Alex?

Sometimes your friends are your best friends, and you shouldn’t have so much as a friend, and then we became best friends don’t have a relationship with them. I grew to love her as a best friend, then it became something far out of our control. When you throw the ‘L’ word around then emotions start getting crazy. But I realized that if someone is that special to you and you cherish them as a friend, then, don’t try to make it a relationship.

I read online somewhere that Whoopi had something to do w/ your relationship ending. Is there any truth to that?

I was the best thing to happened to her, so her mother would definitely want to welcome that, as opposed to wanting to end that.

How did you and Eve meet?

I met Eve at a video shoot, we had the same publicist at the time, and they asked me to go to one of her videos so myself and my son, Lil’ Stevie went we met her there. She asked if I was single and I said No, we never exchanged numbers, then I saw her again right after I broke my relationship off, and we began to date thereafter.

If you loved her, what did you love the most about Eve?

Of course, I loved her, I’m not a bad guy like that. I loved the most the fact that we are both creative, and just to see her grow was something I loved. To see her grow from a young lady to a woman. I’m glad that I was apart of that. That’s what I loved about her, just to watch her grow.

What was your least favorite thing about Eve or your relationship with her?

It wasn’t anything negative, it was always good. It would have been good, if I would of kept it good, I’m the one who fucked up, so everything was good on her end.

We all watched the therapy session between you, Mimi & Joseline. What was your goal or point in all three of you going?

In order to put things on the table, to clean up my mess, lies, and I didn’t want to be the reason why those two weren’t cool, because of my lies.  The point was to come to terms, laying everything out and to make different decisions based on what I layed out as far as honesty, my emotions, and how I felt about them.

Just to switch gears for a moment, Joseline attacked you when she found out that you were staying with Mimi. Then I peeped a clip of her play fighting w/ you on camera on another site. And you know domestic abuse is real. Have you ever gotten physical w/ a woman?

I’m like this, I let a woman go in, because you know me and my antics, my shenanigans, I drive them to the point to where they want to swing off. Now I contain it and I’m not about to put the gloves on, I’ll contain.

What do you think about the alleged domestic abuse situation between Evelyn Lozada and Ochocinco:

I can’t speak bc I don’t know the situation, so I’m not going to get into that.

I’ve seen photos of you and Joseline out and I’ve seen photos of you and Mimi out. What’s your relationship status with Mimi?

You probably have to catch me after the next two episodes, then I can fill you in on everything. .

What prevented you from being committed to Mimi?

I’ve never not been that, I like to do what I like to do when I like to do it. I like to have fun and do me. Everyone has rules in relationships, as long as you follow the rules, when the rules get broken that’s when you have issues, it gets messy and you stepping outside of things.

If the roles were reversed and Mimi had sex or a relationship with another man, could you handle that?

You can’t ask me that because I’m not going for that. I don’t have to and I wont. I’m not entertaining that one right there.

Is that a double-standard:

Call it what you want it call it.

Switching gears here, what is your main attraction to Joseline?

The first was beauty, boom, she cute, then body was all most all the way there when I found her as a talent. The most exciting thing was when I met her, she brought her artist to the table that she wanted me to meet, I looked at her and looked at her artist and I said, she’s our artist. I saw her sing and rhyme other peoples songs, that’s when I called some friends of mine who write for some high powered Latin artist and I said imma send you some melodies on this beat I did, no words just melodies and when I brought her the songs she learned songs in a day. That was an extreme turn on right there, to know that she was serious and was ready to take her career to the next level. From someone who had never been in the studio before and conquer what she conquered, that let me know that she could do whatever she wanted to do in this industry and more. Her drive is bananas.

At the beginning of the season, people were questioning Joseline’s gender. How did that make you feel?

I’m only use to deal with bad top notch ladies, let me say that. So that didn’t make me feel any type of way, that made me say, damn they cant stop this. If that’s what they saying then we about to be on fire because they can’t stop this.

Stevie J's Oldest Son, Dorian

Now, I know you have children, outside of Mimi. How many children do you have?

I have 5 children, Dorian, Lil’ Stevie, Sade, Devona, and Eva Giselle. The oldest is my 17 year old son. He fly, we go out together and all that.

I read somewhere that all of your money is going to pay child support and you’re basically broke. I’m assuming that that’s not the case, but can you clarify if there’s any truth to that?

I don’t entertain that. I’m cooling, I just left Miami, day before that, I was somewhere else, everyday I’m somewhere else, everyday I’m somewhere else. I’m ok, my house is nice, I’m good. I feel good about life.

Do you ever want to get married?

[Long pause] After I accomplish everything I need to, maybe.

What’s the longest time that you’ve been in a relationship, without cheating?

What’s cheating, if your mate likes the things you like, then its not cheating.

Moving on; there are some questions that I have to ask that your fans (and viewers) want to know about. There was a photo floating around of your alleged ‘package’. It was a little on the big side (from what I hear). Is that really you?

My beef cake? Yes, that’s mine.

How did that leak?

I don’t know, only a couple people had it so it happens.

Okay, just a few more random life questions. What’s the biggest lesson the show has taught you about yourself?

I was always so cold so just to see the effect emotionally that I have or how the girls feel, that’s allowed me to switch up my flow and be more delicate. Women are like flowers. My life and the way I was raised, nothing was easy for me; I’m hard on everyone. Keeping everyone emotionally in tact is key to me.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Rihanna is cute but no crush.

What’s your biggest insecurity?

Used to be, getting on stage, being on stage, I’ve had a couple of deals where I always gave money back because I wasn’t ready, divine timing and I am shaking fears and insecurities.

What motto do you live by?

Stick Strong, Never Wrong. Always go hard, do it right the first time, and you want have to do it again. Can’t go wrong.

How old were you when you lost your virginity?

I was a late bloomer, 17 when I lost my virginity

What’s the secret to keeping a man?

You gotta rephrase the question. The secret to a woman keeping me? — Yea, just encouraging; making sure I’m fly; because I make sure they fly. Feeding me, keeping my interest and brain percolating….spirituality sex off the roof.

Do you have a favorite scripture?

Touch not my anointing and do my prophet no harm. Period point blank.

The last time you cried?

I don’t know.

Last question, what do you want your legacy to be?

I want my legacy to be like this guy SJ made a lot of hits, over 100million albums sold–saw Grammy’s, rock’n’roll hall of fame, great father…showed kids how to mastermind and do well in society. At the end of the day, as long as my kids appreciate me, I’m happy. Everything is good.
