Last year, music executive Chris Lighty committed suicide at his New York home. According to the New York Post, the 44-year-old shot and killed himself, after an argument with his wife, Veronica. Almost a year later, Chris’ family still have unanswered questions about his death and do not believe he committed suicide. According to All Hip Hop, recently, his mother, penned a letter and petition, asking for the public’s assistance. She wrote:

Since my son’s death last August, my family and I have been searching for answers to what really happened to my son and to date, none of the explanations given make sense. Our investigation has been stalled. Dr. Baden who was retained to do an independent autopsy has been unable to complete his task due to the lack of cooperation from the Medical Examiner’s office. He was brought in to help determine if Darrell’s death was homicide or suicide. It is almost a year later and we still don’t have the answer. Today, I am begging, Mr. Johnson, the Bronx District Attorney,to make my son’s death a priority and work with our investigator to really look into the facts and circumstances leading up to his untimely death. We have uncovered real information that needs to be followed up on by those in authority. I am attaching a link to an online petition that we will forward to the DA’s office asking them to start a formal investigation. I am asking everyone interested in justice to please sign it.

Thank you. I implore the public as well as those who knew my son in the industry to please help us get justice for Chris Lighty. For additional information please contact Mr. Leemon at [email protected].

The online petition reads:

On August 30, 2012 Darrell “Chris” Lighty was killed. Within 24 hours it was declared a suicide and the case was closed. DNA and gun testing to date are but two of many items that should be done to confirm the manner of death. Dr. Baden, who has been retained to perform a second autopsy has been hampered in his efforts as the evidence requested from the Bronx DA’s office has not after nine months been given to him so that the autopsy can be done. What really happened to Chris? Will his children and family get justice? We implore the public for their support and those in his industry to speak out so that the questions that remain unanswered can be resolved. We implore the Bronx DA’s office to officially reopen this case so that it can be investigated. If it were your loved one who died would you not want answers? So does the Lighty Family. Please help us.

Meanwhile, 50 Cent has remained adamant, that his mentor did not take his own life. In an interview last year he explained:

I got the phone call. It’s almost like the noise turned off. I was just like, ‘nah, I couldn’t actually see him killing himself.’ I can’t really believe that I just heard you say that to me. Till this day, I don’t believe he killed himself.
