Mike Tyson has a confession to make. And it’s huge. He’s been lying to both his fans and the press about being drug-free. For the past few years, he’s said in numerous interviews that being in the movie ‘The Hangover’ inspired him to live a life without drugs and alcohol. For example, in a July 2012 interview with with “Nightline”, he said that he had done rehab and claimed to have been sober for three years, again crediting his role in “The Hangover” with helping him stay sober.
I’m just constantly working on turning. It doesn’t happen overnight. I may have a good few years in me but it’s still not out of me. You still have to work consistently. Every moment of the day you have to work because your demons always — that’s who you are.
Do how did the 47-year-old retired boxer decide to come clean? The startling revelations came out during his press conference on Friday, where he was promoting his first fight with Iron Mike Productions. He explained:
I haven’t drank or took drugs in six days, and for me that’s a miracle. I’ve been lying to everybody else that think I was sober, but I’m not. This is my sixth day. I’m never gonna use again.
I’m a motherf*cker. I’m a bad guy sometimes. I did a lot of bad things, and I want to be forgiven. So in order for me to be forgiven, I hope they can forgive me. I wanna change my life, I wanna live a different life now. I wanna live my sober life. I don’t wanna die. I’m on the verge of dying, because I’m a vicious alcoholic. Wow. God, this is some interesting stuff.
