In part 5 of ‘Self Titled‘, Beyoncé continues to give more insight on the creation of her latest project. Titled, ‘Honest‘, mini art feature include Bey explaining why she no longer felt responsible to be a role model and what she was thinking when recording the seductive track ‘Rocket’. Producer Pharrell shares how the track is liberating to married women with children. Check out a few excerpts.

 Feeling stifled in her career:

The glue that ties this record together is honesty. I started out when I was nine, with the girls of Destiny’s Child. Our first album came out when I was 15, I was a child. But now I’m in my 30’s and those children that grew up listening to me have grown up and I felt like it was my responsibility to be aware of kids and their parents and all these generations. I felt like it stifled me. I felt like in a sense I could not express everything. I’ve done so many things in my life, in my career that at this point, I’ve earned the right to be me and to express any and every side of myself.

On the song ‘Rocket’:

What I love about the song is that it takes you through this journey. You’re flirting and you’re talking all of your arrogant sh*t. Then you climax. Then you have a cigarette. This song is actually about singing from the heart and harmonies and ad-libs and arrangements.

One of the things I love about this project is how willing all of these incredible artists were to write together. Justin Timberlake, Miguel and myself all worked together to write ‘Rockets.’ It was a moment in the studio where I didn’t wanna stop singing it and I kinda zoned out. I don’t think I would have done it you know back then. I don’t think I would been confident enough. I would’ve been to afraid of whatever people thought, but I kinda dropped that fourth wall, and I did it.

On sharing more of herself in the videos:

I feel like I am having to tap into a lot of my life experiences to pull inspiration. I feel like I am opening up a lot in these videos and showing a lot of sides to me that only a few people have ever seen.

At the end of the day I think all of us want happiness and joy. We wanted to be able to be ourselves, our best selves. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. Sometimes you have to take the insecurities to get to the secure place and all of those things I feel happy to express and share.
