[EXCLUSIVE] Jay-Z Says Ex-Employee is a Con Artist: He’s Trying to Extort Me For Money

Chauncey now wants a judge to say he was so essential to the creation of the music, he’s a co-owner of the copyright. As such, it would give him the right to get the masters back.

TMZ initially reported that Jay Z and Roc Nation filed an extortion police report claiming Chauncey was holding boxes of master recordings hostage, demanding $100,000 for the music. A sting operation was set up by Jay-Z where his people met Chancey at a storage facility in the San Fernando Valley, and unbeknownst to him the LAPD was there and seized the boxes.

Now, Jay-Z and Roc Nation have filed a response in the lawsuit claiming Mahan is a scam artist. They explain that Mahan first tried to extort a large sum of money from them in April for return of computer sound files and backup tapes relating to those albums that he kept without their knowledge. They state that since that scheme failed, he is now attempting to sue them.

The rapper claims that for the past 14 years, Mahan never once tried to stake claim in the music created during his time at Roc-A-Fella.

The docs note the suit is,

the second round of Mahan’s attempt to wrongfully extract money out of his brief association with one of the world’s most famous recording artists and to cash in on his unauthorized retention of copies of the commercially released sound recordings at issue, as well as work tapes and outtakes thereof

Jay-Z is demanding the lawsuit be dismissed and Mahan be awarded nothing. Earlier this year, producer Just Blaze sent out a series of Tweets, blasting Chauncey:
