He said he’s chosen not to force his music intellect on up-and-coming singers and songwriters, as is the case with R&B newcomer Tiara Thomas, who left his label shortly after he signed her last year.

First of all she is one of the most talented people I’ve ever met in my life, and that’s saying a lot. One of the most talented writers, really brilliant, but what happened was, when I signed her she was writing a certain type of songs. It’s like if I married you because I thought you were this way and as soon as we got married things changed. I think it’s safe to say everybody knows what the whole situation she was going through with the Wale. I think that put her in a dark space … I think that our visions changed and one thing about me is I know how it feels to be an artist and I know how it feels to be pressured, and I say you know what I never wanted to be in a situation where I am forcing you to do something and then we don’t like each other…I’m not mad at her. I just don’t agree with where she’s going and she don’t agree with where I want her to go.

Love revealed “Turn The Lights On,” comes from his own “dark space.” The entire album was written in the middle of a breakup with his girlfriend. Love said the project represents true stories and deeper meanings — starting with the title.

The lights, they represent success and they represent money and they represent things that happened to you when you become successful I wanted to write about. So when the lights come on, even on the intro I talk about it. It’s saying, ‘What you gone do when the lights come on’…Instead of me making a whole album about how many cars I bought and my big house and this and that, let me talk about how those things affect you.
