Model Zashia Santiago recently did a sit down with VLADTV to discuss her relationship with up and coming rapper Safaree Samuels, who happens to be the ex-boyfriend of mega star Nicki Minaj. Santiago — who is a budding actress and makeup artist — shares that she met Samuels on MTV Wild N’ Out. In the interview, Santiago also shares insight on their fresh relationship, how she handle’s Minaj’s ‘Barbz’ that come for her and what she feels about folk referring to her as an ‘upgrade’ from Minaj. Peep a few excerpts.

Zashia Santiago:  We met on the set of Wild N’ Out. As a lot pf people have assumed. Yes, it’s true. We met on Wild N’ out. He pursued me after that. I was ok with it. He’s an awesome person. I didn’t realize who he was when I gave him my information. I didn’t he was in the public eye. I don’t follow pop culture as much as people would believe. I listen to country… I listen to country music. 99.9 is my station. Pop culture isn’t really, you know? What I’m into. That’s how we hooked up and we love each other’s personalities and we grew in that.

Zashia Santiago:  After me knowing who is ex was and everything and we shared the information. I knew that if this would ever come to light that it would be an issue. It would be something I had to deal with. And I think it’s gone pretty well. There is a lot of bashing and everyone has their opinion and everyone isn’t always going to be on my side, I get that.  But, we have been handling it pretty well. It hasn’t been bad for me. It’s been a lot of positivity on top of that. My fans and his fans they come together and encourage us and they say they are praying for us. It’s like wow. That’s a lot and we appreciate that. So that overlaps all the negativity. Positivity has waved over all of that negativity.
