Tina Turner’s Husband Gave Her a Kidney

Iconic singer Tina Turner’s new book reveals a shocking secret about her health. Excerpts from her upcoming autobiography, Tina Turner: My Love Story, reveal her husband – German music executive, Erwin Bach – gave her one of his kidneys when she desperately needed a transplant in 2013 due to kidney disease. On what prompted the kidney transplant:

“[My kidneys were functioning at] 20 percent and plunging rapidly.”

On how she felt about her husband offering his organs to save her life:

“[He] shocked me by saying that he wanted to give me one of his kidneys…”

She continued:

“[I was] overwhelmed by the enormity of his offer.”

On her feelings post-surgery:

“[I felt] happy, overwhelmed and relieved that we’d come through this alive.”

Tina Turner, 78, married Erwin Back, 72, in a private ceremony in 2013, and is now a Swiss citizen.
