Petition Started To Name L.A. Street In Nipsey Hussle’s Honor

As fans and loved ones continue to mourn slain rapper Nipsey Hussle, some L.A. locals are aiming to permanently honor his legacy in the very area where he was striving to make change. A petition has been started to name a local L.A. street in Hussle’s honor.

Project Islamic Hope has created a Change.org petition to permanently change Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue in the Hyde Park district of L.A., to Nipsey Hussle Boulevard. The intersection is the location of Hussle’s Marathon Clothing store, where he was gunned down by alleged suspect Eric Holder, who is currently in police custody.

The petition is a call for Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson to approve the renaming. It was created earlier this week and amassed almost 5,000 signatures in its first 22 hours.

As for Holder, 29, who was recently arrested, he has been reportedly placed in solitary confinement due to fears for his safety in L.A. County Jail. His bond is set at $7,040,000.

Hussle’s girlfriend and the mother of his son, actress Lauren London, broke her silence about his death for the first time, writing an emotional Instagram post:

I am completely lost
I’ve lost my best friend
My sanctuary
My protector
My soul….
I’m lost without you
We are lost without you babe
I have no words”
