Ochocinco Gives DWTS Partner Diamond Ring

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Sue me if I’m late, but how sweet is this? Well, sweet partially bc we all know it’s one thing that Ocho loves and that’s attention. Chad recently gave his Dancing With the Stars partner, Cheryl Burke, a $10,000 platinum ring with diamonds. Why you ask? It was an appreciation gift. Now, both seem to think it’s their good luck charm and it probably is. Ochocinco is a marketing genius. Thee end.

Here for the full story.

Nicki Minaj vs. Keyz (of Bmore) Part 2

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Round 1: About a month ago, there was buzz about this new (or maybe she’s just new to me) female rapper called Keyz that did a diss song geared at Nicki Minaj. Here’s the clip: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W8_xOWd4-Y&feature=player_embedded]. Last week, Minaj responds to “haters” on Ustream.

Here’s the clip: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdTEcGqfctY]

Round 2: Apparently, Keyz wasn’t feeling the subliminal hater reference and said, “How dare you sit under a green f&%cking wig and say that I’m turning Hip-Hop into some clown s*%&. How dare you b*%$! And say that I’m turning Hip-Hop into some negative s*%&. You’re doing nothing positive b%*$, you are not a conscious rapper.”

Ray J Blogs About New Reality Show

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Ray J blogs about his new reality show w/ the family. Peep his blog below:

Let’s talk about family and money. First off, I wanted to get my “Created by” credit with Brandy & Ray J: Family Business because this time around I created this show for the family. It was a little bit hard to convince them and pitch them the show to where they would accept the offer of even doing it, just because my family is kind of more private than I am as far as with cameras. But I let them know this show will bring a lot of other families together and it’ll bring us together.

My goal was to show the obstacles of putting this business together as a family and dealing with personal issues in our family, and I think once people see how we lay our blueprint of how we did it our way, it’ll make people call up their mom or their brother or their sister and say, “Yo I watched this show. Let’s all get back together and be a family.” Or, “Let’s clean up something that happened in the past. Let’s make it right.”

All of these things are my intentions for doing this show. It’s really real, and my sister walked in one day and kicked the door down—well, not kicked it down, but opened up my door and was like, “Yo if we gon’ do this show we gotta really just open up and do it for real. People gon’ know if it’s real and they gon’ know if it’s not.” My sister, my mom, my pops, they gave 110 percent. I love them and I got they back, whatever they need from me.

On the show, me and Rodney Jerkins partner up in the studio—Knockout Entertainment, Darkchild—he’s producing my whole album. He’s the musical genius for this album and I’m writing the records with him and coming up with concepts but I got him spearheading the album and throughout the show you’ll see us ink with a major label and really just go hard. I’m tired of putting out these hits and they’re just independent. We ’bout to go hard. We just dropped a few songs with the New Boyz and then I’m coming off “Sexy Can I” independently and I just want to make sure this time around after we drop these singles we can just keep it going. I’m sure a major label can help me with that so I’m excited.

To Shave or Not to Shave in the Celeb World

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

The NYTimes has an interesting article on our whole perspective on something that some women dread–SHAVING. Whether its your arms or legs, women seem to have a very strong opinion about what’s appropriate in public. As you’ll recall, comedian Mo’Nique is vocal about not shaving. In a recent interview, she referred to unshaven legs as, “a black woman’s thing.

According to this article, occasional unshaved legs just isn’t a “black thing.” Celine Dione sported hairy legs during a performance in Tokyo. Thing is, I don’t recall ppl making such a fuss over it. Peep the article for more.

Rocsi (of 106th & Park) Discusses Body Image Struggle

Written by thejasminebrand in Uncategorized

Read, Rocsi’s blog on Vibe, about her issues and struggles w/ body issues. Peep her full entry below:

I am amazed how self-conscious people are about their bodies and the way they physically look, but what is more surprising to me is that it seems young ladies are younger and younger with their age when it comes to the almost crippling everyday feeling of being unsatisfied with themselves.

On my recent USO tour visit to the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, I met a group of lovely young teen girls who are a part of a group called the SMART Girls group. The topic of the day when I was there was: Media influence on women and how they are portrayed.

These young ladies spoke of the very same insecurities that I spoke about when I was 14 and 15, issues that I still think about to this day. The conversation left me wondering to myself if there was really any one person or thing to blame. I do not remember when I was in high school or junior high ever really looking at people on TV and saying to myself I want to be skinny.

The days I would go by starving myself for fear of seeing the numbers on the scale go up. I knew something was wrong. I weighed myself everyday.

Shamefully, I still do, just without the freaking out part. I just don’t remember why I thought a certain weight was fat or that I was fat. Being someone who has struggled with an eating disorder most of my life I now wonder if I will ever be secure with myself and be fully satisfied with who I am. Or are we as women never satisfied with our appearance?

Does that make it another disorder all together? At what age are we telling our young ladies what is appropriate and what is wrong with them, watch what we eat, your ears are huge, your thighs are huge, you’re too fat, you’re too skinny, too tall, too short… When do we ever just stop? Is the media to blame or is it our own household who make us insecure?

Where do the boundaries of what the media is responsible for and what or own household is responsible for stand? Would the new controversial Erykah Badu video “Window Seat” be seen as liberation and art of the ultimate security in oneself? How do young women see that or what do they get from it?

It’s dope that she’s opening up about this. Follow Rocsi on twitter.
