President Obama to Screen ‘SELMA’ + Oprah, John Legend, Ava DuVernay React to Oscar Nomination
Director Ava DuVernay may have been snubbed by the Academy, but she’s getting lots of love in Washington. According to the Washington Post, the White House is hosting a Friday screening of the film, Selma. The site reports:
The intimate late-afternoon gathering (one source said it would be “a very small group”) will include members of the cast and crew, including Common (whose song “Glory,” written with John Legend, received an Oscar nomination for best original song), and Washington notables like Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Ala.). We’re on high alert for an Oprah sighting (she was a “Selma” producer).
As previously reported, the film received an Oscar nomination for “Best Picture”, with Common and Legend receiving nominations for achievement in music written for motion pictures. Oprah, Ava, Legend and Common shared their excitement on Twitter, tweeting:
