Chaka Khan Shares That She And Aretha Franklin Both Had A ‘Bad Body Image’: “I’ve Seen Many A Zipper Bust On Her Stage”
Legendary musician and singer Chaka Khan has been known for voice for decades but since she’s been a public figure just as long, her fans have watched her fluctuate in size but the singer has changed her image for good.
In a recent interview with VLAD, she opened up about having what she calls a “bad body image,” and spoke about the legendary late Aretha Franklin’s body image too.
The icon, who admits she lost the weight on her own without surgery, stated
“I got a lot of attention when I lost the weight because I lost the weight. When I say Ima do something, Ima do it.”
The “Ain’t Nobody” singer continued,
“I have a bad body image. I don’t know what I look like. I really don’t. I can’t stand in the mirror and assess myself in comparison to other people.
“Aretha had the same thing. She would order and have size 8 made for her when she was a size 40. God bless her. I’ve seen many a zipper bust on her on stage. God bless her. When there is genius in one area, some place else really suffers. You’re a coo koo head in another place.”
She added,
“I lost that weight because I was pre diabetic. I said no. This is not.”
Chaka Khan claimed that during pandemic is the perfect time to lose weight, claiming that
“If there was ever a time when you want to focus on improving yourself in anyway, now would be that time.”
Aretha Franklin did lose a significant amount of weight but died in 2018 from complications of pancreatic cancer.
