Kevin Hart’s Drama ‘Fatherhood’ To Premiere On Netflix Father’s Day + Barack & Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Production Company Joins Film

Kevin Hart’s newest project Fatherhood was supposed to hit theaters next month, but due to COVID-19, it has landed a deal with Netflix and will instead premiere on the streaming service this Father’s Day.

Now that Netflix has picked up the film, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, has also joined the project. Sony Pictures was the original studio to head the project but negotiated a licensing contract with Netflix.

Dana Stevens penned the script with Paul Weitz, who will also direct.

The film will serve as a way for fans to see Kevin Hart in a new light as it’s a drama and not a comedy. It tells the story of a father who has to raise his daughter after his wife passes away during childbirth.

Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, and Anthony Carrigan will also star in the movie.

Kevin Hart is slated to produce with Marty Bowen, David Beaubaire, and Peter Kiernan. Executive producer credits will go to Betsy Danbury, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth, Bryan Smiley, Jaclyn Huntling Swatt, Isaac Klausner, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin.

Kevin Hart’s Fatherhood is one of the latest to move to a streaming service since thousands of movie theaters are closed thanks to COVID-19. Eddie Murphy’s highly-anticipated film Coming 2 America signed a $125 million deal with Amazon Prime and will premiere Friday, March 5th. It was initially scheduled to hit theaters last December.
