Michael Jackson’s Estate Wins In Wade Robson’s Sexual Abuse Lawsuit

Since the passing of the late and legendary Michael Jackson, his estate has been delegating legal measures in regards to alleged sexual abuse claims against him.

Back in 2019, the “Remember the Time” singer’s estate came to an agreement with Disney after suing the company for copyright infringement over ABC’s two-hour documentary The Last Days of Michael Jackson, which aired on the network in May of 2018. The details of the agreement weren’t clear, but in the lawsuit, Michael Jackson’s estate called out the company for infringing on the King of Pop’s likeness for years. The estate said that the documentary featured portions of the This Is It project along with videos for hits like “Black or White” and “Thriller.” It also pointed out that Disney often takes legal action when protecting its own intellectual property.

Michael Jackson’s estate reached another milestone in the case against choreographer, Wade Robson. Back in 2013, Wade Robson claimed that he was subject to sexual abuse by the late singer while he was underage. His allegations were highlighted in the 2019 HBO documentary Leaving Neverland. The cable network was hit with a $100 million dollar lawsuit due to claims of violating a non-disparagement clause. Jackson’s estate won a recent appeal in the battle against the network.

In a recent turn of events, L.A. County Superior Court Judge Mark A. Young dismissed Wade Robson’s lawsuit on Monday April 26. During the arbitration, it was unveiled that defendants MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures were not financially obligated to provide Robson compensation because the corporations had no legal duty or ability to control the late singer.

Robson’s attorney, Vince Finaldi, spoke with Entertainment Weekly and said that the ruling had,

“fatal flaws.”

Finaldi added that the case would be,

“to the Court of Appeal, and to the Supreme Court if necessary. If allowed to stand, the decision would set a dangerous precedent that would leave thousands of children working in the entertainment industry vulnerable to sexual abuse by persons in places of power. The children of our state deserve protection, and we will not stop fighting until we insure that every child is safe.”

Jonathan Steinsapir, who’s the presiding attorney over Jackson’s estate claimed in a statement that Robson,

“has spent the last eight years pursuing frivolous claims in different lawsuits against Michael Jackson’s estate and companies associated with it. Robson has taken nearly three dozen depositions and inspected and presented hundreds of thousands of documents trying to prove his claims, yet a Judge has once again ruled that Robson’s claims have no merit whatsoever, that no trial is necessary, and that his latest case is dismissed.”
