Comedian Aries Spears Doubles Down On His Lizzo Fat-Shaming Comments + Responds To Her Seemingly Reacting To Him During Her VMA Speech: I Almost Wish She Said My Name [VIDEO]

Despite Aries Spears being in the hot seat from his controversial comments about Lizzo, he doesn’t seem to be backing down.

As previously reported, comedian Aries Spears recently found himself under fire for his “fat-phobic attack” on singer/song-writer Lizzo, 34. During an appearance on the “Art of Dialogue,” Aries Spears said,

“I can’t get past the fact that she looks like the s–t emoji. She’s got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off like, come on, man. Come on, yo. I’m sorry. Listen, I ain’t the most in-shape n—a in the world but I still, when you funny and you got swagger and confidence and you decent looking – I think I’m at least handsome – you get p—y. But a woman that’s built like a plate of mashed potatoes is in trouble.”

He continued,

“You know what kills me about women is the hypocrisy and the contradiction. F*ck diabetes, f*ck heart problems, f*ck heart disease, cholesterol. Y’all claim womanhood and about sisterhood and support for your sister, you know, when it comes to that ridiculous sh*t. But if you really gave a f*ck, why wouldn’t you go, ‘Black girl, we love your confidence, boo boo, but this ain’t it. This ain’t it.’”

Spears added,

“That’s the real love. Y’all jump on me for making jokes, but y’all won’t be f—ing real and go, ‘Sister, put the eclair down. This ain’t it. It’s treadmill time.’”

In a new interview with “VladTV,” the 47-year-old actor/writer shared his reasoning behind the unsupportive remarks towards Lizzo, real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson. Spears shared,

“This is how this works… When you’re a public figure in the public eye and you do the things that Lizzo does — where you come to a Laker game and you show your whole a** in front of children and families, you are father for jokes. And for me, I’m always thinking joke first.”

Despite the backlash the stand-up comedian has received, he claimed his response towards Lizzo’s body type and what she wears has also received an equal amount of support. Spears said,

“The general feeling was, ‘You said what everybody’s been thinking. We just didn’t say it.’ So I said it. And listen, as far as an artist, Lizzo’s phenomenal, you can’t deny that. But like I said, for me, it’s comedy first.”

He continued,

“Lizzo’s confidence is commendable and the fact that there’s unity for women in sisterhood in terms of body confidence and beauty and love within thyself, it’s commendable. But don’t let so much celebration and silence detract you from the fact that this sh*t is dangerous, it’s unhealthy. I myself, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol.”

As you may already know, many people seemed to think the Grammy-award winning singer was responding to Spears in her VMAs acceptance speech. During her speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, Lizzo said,

“I want to say thank you so much for loving me and supporting me. Now, to the b*tches that got something to say about me in the press. You know what? I’m not gonna say nothing! Why don’t you clap back? Because b*tch, I’m winning.”

Lizzo has since made one thing very clear: She wasn’t just talking to Spears. The “Good As Hell” singer explained,

“Lemme make one thing VERY clear— I wasn’t addressing anybody in my speech last night.. I was addressing EVERYBODY.”

While discussing Lizzo’s remarks during her acceptance speech, Spears reacted to the speculation that she was speaking to him and said,

“She never said my name. Now was she talking about me, put the pieces together, more than likely. But she never said my name. But I ain’t the only muth*f*ck* making Lizzo fat jokes. So she was addressing all her haters.”

He continued,

“I almost wish she did say my name to really make it specific, but she didn’t say my name.”
