Donald Trump’s Facebook & Instagram Accounts Return Shortly After Meta Announces The Removal Of His Ban

The world could possibly be hearing a lot more from former U.S. President Donald Trump soon.

In a controversial move, Meta – the parent company to social media platforms Instagram and Facebook, announced they are officially moving to reinstate infamous ex-president Donal Trump.

Speaking on their decision, Meta wrote in a blog post shared on their website:

“Social media is rooted in the belief that open debate and the free flow of ideas are important values, especially at a time when they are under threat in many places around the world. As a general rule, we don’t want to get in the way of open, public and democratic debate on Meta’s platforms — especially in the context of elections in democratic societies like the United States….But that does not mean there are no limits to what people can say on our platform.”

They continued:

“Two years ago, we took action in what were extreme and highly unusual circumstances. We indefinitely suspended then-US President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts following his praise for people engaged in violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021…We imposed a time-bound suspension of two years from the date of the original suspension on January 7, 2021 — an unprecedented length of time for such a suspension. We also clarified the circumstances in which accounts of public figures could be restricted during times of civil unrest and ongoing violence,”

You may recall that back in 2021, Meta took “extreme” measures against Trump following the January 6th riot on Capitol Hill. Politicians and citizens everywhere felt the former POTUS directly incited the violent act against the government by encouraging unlawful behavior, in addition to publicly praising the assailants.

This was all after Trump took a huge defeat to current President Joe Biden, subsequently claiming the whole election was rigged. As it was clear the government official had abused several social media platform user policies to add fuel to a growing flame, he was banned from several platforms, including; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat, Pinterest, and YouTube.

Trump was livid about the ban and vehemently spoke out against it. He even filed suit against the companies. However, the famed businessman eventually resorted to funding his own social platform called Truth Social, which he now primarily uses. Late last year, billionaire Elon Musk welcomed Trump back to Twitter after purchasing the platform and immediately reinstating his account. Despite this, the 45th president slammed returning to Twitter, informing individuals he’ll only be connecting with followers on Truth only.

With the 2024 elections around the corner, however, it’s a good chance Trump will utilize additional social platforms. To date, he has 23+ million Instagram followers, 34+ million Facebook subscribers, and 87+ million Twitter followers. It doesn’t seem the ex-president has posted since his reinstatement at this time.
