Angie Stone Says Ex D’Angelo Won’t Collaborate w/ Her On New Music Because Of His Pride: ‘He Doesn’t Want To Share The Credit’

Looks like fans of Angie Stone and D’Angelo won’t be seeing the two work on music together again.

In a recent interview, singer/songwriter Angie Stone opened up about her relationship with her legendary singer ex-boyfriend D’Angelo and claimed that his pride is interfering with them collaborating again.

D’Angelo

If you didn’t know, Angie Stone (born Angela Brown) co-wrote on D’Angelo’s iconic debut album, “Brown Sugar.” The two singers also dated in the early 90s and welcomed a son together in 1998, Michael D’Angelo Archer II. The former couple reportedly connected after D’Angelo (real name Michael Archer) pursued the “Black Diamond” songstress. Stone is 12 years his senior.

During the sit-down interview for VladTV, Stone reportedly said,

“Let me tell you something, and I’m being 100, he would be a lot further here today, and I’m not discrediting him. Don’t misunderstand me, but because of the powers that be, everybody and they momma wish Angie Stone and D’Angelo would get back together and work again. I’ve heard it a million times.”

The 61-year-old singer continued,

“His pride as a man would not allow of him to do that because he doesn’t want to share the credit. He doesn’t want it to look like, ‘What if I get with her and we win? Then it’s going to look like she did it.’ I mean the writings on the wall, but if you want to roll like that, I’m not mad at you, but that’s not my spirit.”

Stone added,

“My spirit is we have a winning element God gave us that. You didn’t give me that. God gave us that, and what you should do, if nothing else, is put your difference aside. You have children and say, let’s get in the studio and work on our God-given craft, but his pride would not allow him to go there, and it’s sad, but the industry created that energy, and because they created it, they have to now suffer, and wait for the kind of music that we created. It would never happen because that “we” factor isn’t there.”

In addition, Stone spoke on the pair’s co-parenting relationship and said his pride also affects the 49-year-old showing support for their son, 25-year-old Michael Archer II, known under the moniker Swayvo Twain.

Stone expressed,

“I believe he knows our son is talented, but where we are in our lives, we’ll just have to wait on it.”
