Family Of Chelsea Adolphus Sues Waukegan, Illinois Hospital After She Was Found De@d On Hospital Roof: ‘Systematic Failure’

Update: The family of Chelsea Adolphus, a woman who died after being found on the roof of Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital. Represented by attorney Ben Crump, they are seeking justice for what they call a “systematic failure” in her care.

Chelsea Adolphus, who was admitted to the hospital on January 22, was discovered the following day on the rooftop. According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, she died from hypothermia after being exposed to the cold for nearly seven hours in just a hospital gown, with her body temperature found to be around 50 degrees.

Ben Crump accused the hospital of lying about the circumstances of her death, stating,

“This lawsuit is an epic case of profits over patients.”

He also criticized the hospital for not providing the necessary medical care. Crump plans to release a photo showing Adolphus on the roof as part of the ongoing investigation.

Original Story: The family of Chelsea Adolphus is demanding answers after she passed away while at a medical center.

Chelsea Adolphus was a patient at Vista Medical Center in Waukegan, Illinois, when she climbed onto the roof unattended. She was there for almost seven hours before she was discovered, only wearing a hospital gown. She was pronounced de@d 14 hours later.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek later ruled that she d*ed of hypothermia after being out in the cold, adding that her body temperature was 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Her official cause of de@th will be confirmed after toxicology results.

Banek said in a press conference that the doors Chelsea Adolphus left out of “did not have alarms”, and she may have been unable to reenter the area once she walked out.

Chelsea’s brother Paul Adolphus said the family wants to know exactly how she d*ed.

“We want to know exactly what happened from when my sister stepped foot in that facility. The family needs answers and we need answers immediately.”

Banek added that 69 employees of the center had recently been furloughed “including sitters who are staff members that sit and watch to monitor to ensure patients are safe when they are most vulnerable.”

The hospital said in a statement,

“Our sincere condolences go out to the family during this difficult time. During an ongoing investigation and in accordance with HIPAA regulations, the hospital will not disclose any patient’s specific health information.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chelsea Adolphus’ family and loved ones during this difficult time.
