RHOA’s Shamea Morton Claims Chemical Peel Left Her Blistered and Permanently Scarred, Sues Doctor Boost
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Shamea Morton has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit, claiming an Atlanta doctor and her business left her blistered and permanently scarred after a chemical peel procedure went wrong, Us Weekly reports.
According to court documents filed on October 31, Morton and her husband, Gerald Mwangi, are suing Jing Jing Wong Harris, M.D., along with Harris’ company, Pretty Faces Atlanta, and other defendants. The lawsuit centers on a chemical peel Morton received at Pretty Faces Atlanta on March 13, 2024.
Morton alleges she should never have undergone the procedure due to a diagnosis of Tinea Versicolor, described in the suit as a fungal condition. The filing claims she should have been referred to a trained dermatologist and argues that even without the condition, the chemical peel — including two passes — was “completely inappropriate” for her skin, citing a lack of proper skin preparation and pigment correction.
The lawsuit further accuses a third-party defendant of using a chemical peel that was too strong on Morton’s back and arms, allegedly without Harris’ supervision. Morton claims the procedure resulted in “second degree burns, blistering and permanent scarring,” adding that she “cried in pain due to sensations she was experiencing.” The filing alleges her screams were so loud that Harris entered the room and, after Morton reported intense pain, told her she was being dramatic.
Morton is seeking unspecified damages. Her attorney, Darren M. Tobin, told Us Weekly, “What happened to Shamea when she was burned is unacceptable and inexcusable. We intend on pursuing full justice allowed under the law.” Morton first appeared on RHOA in season 5, later became a friend of the cast in season 8, and was promoted to a full-time cast member in season 16.
