Actor Omar Gooding Survived A Near-Fatal Car Crash – Credits His Seatbelt For Saving His Life
Omar Gooding is speaking out from a hospital bed after being involved in a serious car accident that left him with a severe spinal injury. The actor took to Instagram to address the wave of concerned calls and messages, confirming the news directly to fans.
Gooding revealed he suffered a Hangman’s fracture — a dangerous break at the upper cervical spine. “No I did not break my neck… completely,” he wrote, adding, “Hangman’s fracture is what they call it. GOD IS GOOD.”
According to Gooding, he was asleep in the backseat of a car on his way to the airport when the accident occurred. He made a point to note that his seatbelt was on, writing that things “would have been worse” had he not been buckled up.
The actor addressed supporters directly, asking them to stop flooding his phone so his family could get through. “I need to keep my phone on so family can reach me,” he wrote, noting he was uncertain how long he’d remain hospitalized.
As for his professional schedule, Gooding’s doctor has prescribed three months of recovery time. He promised to update his website with any changes to his show dates and assured fans he’d be back in time for the summer.
He closed out the post on an uplifting note — “Stay BLESSED! And tell a loved one you love them .. TODAY.”
