Terrence Howard Allows White Friends to Use N-Word: It’s just a noun. [VIDEO]
Less than a few days from EMPIRE’s finale, the show’s star, Terrence Howard, took his talents to Access Hollywood Live, weighing in on why he believes the n-word is necessary — especially when it comes to the hit Fox show. Howard has recently made headlines because of this point of view. In fact, Howard says that in season two of Empire, the show’s writers and creators should consider using the n-word.
I believe, if we’re gonna really tackle racism…If we’re gonna tackle bigotry, if we’re gonna tackle homophobia — we need to tackle it dead one….Since n*gga is used in almost every conversation in most black neighborhoods why is it that we don’t hear it on TV anymore? Are white people afraid of it? Did they create the word? But if this is something that we use on a daily basis, then let’s address what it REALLY means?
After quoting Martin Luther King Jr. about being judged by our character (as opposed to our skin), he adds:
We need to address it straight up and down. As long as we keep calling each other ‘n*gga’, along the way, we’re gonna treat each other like that.
When asked what the n-word means to him, he explains:
It could mean love. Sometimes it’s a noun. Sometimes it’s a verb….There’s a spirt attached to it. My dad uses it. My brothers use it. I use it. I’m sitting here hoping maybe I won’t use it with my son, but I don’t know if I’d be honest if I didn’t use it with my son.
He also shares that his white friends use the n-word, as a term of endearment:
My friends use it. My white friends, ‘What’s up my n*gga?’ It has taken on this term to us. But it’s blown out of proportion outside the world.
He continues:
