On Tuesday November 3, 2015, Halle Berry, Naomie Harris, Trina Parks and Gloria Hendry — four of the six Black Actresses of the James Bond Franchise — graced the red carpet at the Black Women of Bond Tribute held at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles.
This historical evening was hosted by Essence Magazine and the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) and presented by Columbia Pictures and MGM while welcoming a potent mix of entertainment industry professionals, celebrities and community tastemakers to celebrate the groundbreaking accomplishments of these women whose contributions to the international franchise have stood as trailblazing representations of Black beauty and excellence amongst them all.
Trina Parks (Diamonds Are Forever) was the first African American Bond girl starting this profound legacy followed in suit by Gloria Hendry (Live and Let Die), Emily Bolton (Moonraker), Grace Jones (A View To Kill), Halle Berry (Die Another Day) and Naomie Harris (Skyfall, Spectre).
The tribute consisted of a musical performance by Long Beach, CA based R&B soul artist Choklate, the Essence Magazine December Issue cover reveal with Naomie Harris and a first-look photo reveal of the women curated and presented by Kwaku Alston. Other celebrities in attendance included Jay Ellis, LisaRaye, Elise Neal and others.
