Kerry Washington Opens Up About Black Lives Matter & Police Shooting Deborah Danner
Kerry Washington Opens Up About Black Lives Matter
Kerry Washington has returned to social media.
Over the weekend, the Scandal actress thanked fans for their well wishes on her second child (son Caleb Kelechi Asomugh) and then vented about the tragic death of Deborah Danner.
Deborah Danner was a 66-year-old resident of Bronx, New York with a history of schizophrenia and mental illness. Police were called to her apartment on a regular basis. This month, officer Hugh Barry responded to her apartment after a neighbor reported her engaging in threatening behavior. According to police she was armed with scissors. Officer Barry reportedly talked her into dropping the scissors but she then came at him with a baseball bat. He fired two shots, killing her. Some people have questioned the shooting of an elderly, naked woman with a history of mental issues including Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner O’Neill.
Kerry tweeted her thoughts on the matter, sharing that her heart aches over her death.
She also urged people to go see Moonlight, a drama film written and directed by Barry Jenkins starring Trevante Rhodes, André Holland, Janelle Monáe, Ashton Sanders, Jharrel Jerome, Naomie Harris, and Mahershala Ali.
