(EXCLUSIVE) Rihanna & Jay Z – $660k Victory in Legal Battle with Nigerian Concert Promoter
Rihanna & Jay Z Victory in Legal Battle With Promoter
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Rihanna and Jay-Z scored a $660k victory in the legal battle filed by a Nigeria concert promoter – in which he accused them of screwing him over by backing out of a scheduled concert. The music mogul and pop star have had all claims against them thrown out.
Here’s the latest: On November 22nd, docs were filed in the case explaining the plaintiff has agreed to drop all claims against Rihanna, Jay-Z and Roc Nation. The parties reached an agreement in which the case will be closed against the singer and music mogul and will allow him to continue on with the other defendants not related to the entertainers in court.
Here’s the backstory: Earlier this year, a man named Chris Ubosi and his company Megalectrics filed suit against Rihanna and Jay-Z & Roc Nation in New York Court.
The man claimed he booked Rihanna to perform in Nigeria in 2013. Ubosi said he worked out a deal with 2 people claiming to represent the singer. The contract stated she would be paid $425k for an hour show.
Prior to the scheduled May 2013 concert, the man claimed to have made 3 payments to the representative totaling $160k. Following the payments, he was told by the rep that she would have to postpone the show and he agreed as long as she posted the new date on her social media.
Ubosi filed suit against Rihanna and Jay-Z, demanding the return of the $160k he paid and $500k in other damages.
Rihanna & Jay-Z responded, explaining they never were paid for the alleged performance. The singer says that the other defendants in the lawsuit apparently swindled Ubosi and his company into wiring a total of $160k to secure her for the Nigeria concert.
The singer pointed out she can’t be held liable for the scam the other men alleged pulled on Ubosi.
She claims she never was anything, never agreed to perform at the concert and none of it was her fault. The singer, Jay-Z and Roc Nation were demanding the $660k lawsuit against them be thrown out of court. According to docs filed in the case, Jay-Z’s counsel threatened to have the plaintiff sanctioned if he didn’t withdraw his claims against Rihanna and the label.
