EXCLUSIVE: Wiz Khalifa Settles Legal Accusing Him Of Stealing ‘Most Of Us’ From Rapper
theJasmineBRAND exclusively reports, Wiz Khalifa is no longer facing a legal battle over his hit song ‘Most Of Us’. This month, court documents were filed in the case revealing that the 30-year-old rapper and Dustin Bennett had officially settled the case. The doc notes,
We the undersigned represent Defendants in the above-captioned
proceeding. We write, jointly with Plaintiff’s counsel, to advise the
Court that the parties have reached a settlement in principle of all
claims in the above-referenced action. We hereby request that Your
Honor issue a conditional Order of Dismissal so that the parties can
have 30 days (or any period of time that the Court orders) to document
the settlement.
We broke the story earlier this year that Georgia rapper Dustin Bennett, who goes by the stage name Cymple Man, claimed that Wiz ripped off his song ‘Most Of Us’. He noted that there were obvious similarities between Wiz’s song and his own 2010 song which also has the same name.
Dustin said that back in 2012, he met Wiz at Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah and he gave him a demo that had his ‘Most Of Us’ track on it. He claims that he never heard back from Wiz, but discovered later that Wiz had stolen part of his song.
The suit claimed the song stole the essential lyrics of his song and the chorus was similar. He said,
the exact words ‘most of us’ appear approximately 80 times throughout the Khalifa song, and Khalifa used the exact lyrics in the exact manner as Bennett by introducing each refrain in the same style in the Khalifa song.
He sued seeking in excess of $150,000 in damages from Wiz.
Wiz responded to the lawsuit, stating he will vigorously dispute the alleged airport meeting or that anyone stole the man’s lyrics for his track. He denies copying anything from Bennet’s song and points out nobody can claim ownership of “most of us” being used in song lyrics. He demanded the entire case be dismissed.
