Demi Lovato Releases 1st Statement Since Overdose
Demi Lovato issued her first statement after being hospitalized for a suspected heroin overdose two weeks ago. The “Sober” crooner shared the message of gratitude and thankfulness via Instagram. In the 4 paragraph message, she outlined her own faults while suggesting she might be aware where it is she misstepped. She began,
I have always been transparent about my journey through addiction. What I’ve learned is that this addiction is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.
After being found by her assistant in her Hollywood Hills home, the pop singer gave thanks to the ones closest to her during this time.
I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time.
After 6 years of sobriety, the 25-year-old singer hummed about her struggle with addiction through her new song called “Sober” in June. On the chorus, she sung,
Mama, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore. And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks on the floor. To the ones who never let me, we’ve been down this road before. I’m so sorry. I’m not sober anymore.
The release of the song is followed by reports claiming Demi fired her sobriety coach in early July. She concluded her message,
I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.
