YG – I Support Kaepernick, But I’m Not Protesting the NFL: I’m A Sports N*gg*
YG recently made headlines when he responded to Madden 19 and EA Sports for redacting social activist and free agent, Colin Kaepernick from Big Sean’s verse off his single – which recently gold – Big Bank.
bad enough @Kaepernick7 still not signed, but now they even edit his name out in this year’s @EAMaddenNFL during @BigSean verse, smh pic.twitter.com/3nvkB26z5r

After a Twitter user pointed it out, YG and Big Sean pleaded their dissatisfaction about the removal of Kaepernick’s name and EA Sports quickly released a statement. The sports company claimed it was a mistake and they would be adding the original verse back in due time. The Compton rapper even made a video of himself kneeling, saying how he was in support of Kaepernick, but he has recently revealed new information that would cause some fans and NFL boycotters to raise an eyebrow.
During an interview on The Breakfast Club, YG shared he still would be tuning into the NFL during the 2018-2019 season. He confessed,
I’m supporting Kaepernick, but I’m watching the games. Cause I’m a sports n*gga.
He continued:
But if I was in the NFL, when bro took that knee, I would have took that knee with him. Because, I know they’re trying to put him in a twist for the reason he took a knee, but he was talking about the other shit. All the police killing blacks, and shit getting swept under the rug – that’s why he was taking a knee.
After YG shared his point of view, radio host Charlamagne Tha God inquired why he would watch the NFL, the Compton rapper responds,
because I’m Americanized. I just love the NFL. And it’s already over with.

As previously mentioned, this statement also follows after YG making a video, demanding that EA Sports and the NFL apologize for removing Kaepernick’s name. He explains how no one on the song approved of the change, and that he is in support of Kaepernick’s silent protest(s).

Kaepernick caused an uproar during the NFL season in 2017 for kneeling during the national anthem to silently protest against social injustice against minorities in America. Kaepernick was released from the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.
