Frank Ocean Sends Travis Scott A Cease & Desist, Wants Off Of ‘Astroworld’
When Travis Scott released his highly anticipated album Astroworld, fans thought it was innovative that he did not list the featured artists’ names on the album. Instead, you had to listen to every song to know who made a cameo. Fans who listened to “Carousel” were quickly able to identify Frank Ocean‘s recognizable vocals but now it appears Ocean and Scott are on the outs over the feature.
Frank Ocean is featured on the hook and third verse of “Carousel”. While you can easily recognize his voice on the chorus of the song, the pitch on third verse is pretty high compared to the way Frank sings on most of his other work.
According to reports, weeks before Astroworld was released, Frank Ocean and Travis Scott were in a disagreement over the way Frank’s vocals were manipulated for the album. However, the song was released as is. Frank Ocean has since released a statement saying that he DID send out a cease and desist but not for the reasons being reported. He also says that he and Travis have resolved the issue weeks ago.
Frank Ocean took to his Tumblr to release a statement.
I THINK THE SONG SOUNDS COOL, I DID IT IN LIKE 20 MINUTES AND THE MIX SOUNDS THE WAY TRAVIS WANTED IT TO SOUND FOR HIS RECORD. I ALSO APPROVED IT BEFORE IT CAME OUT SO THE CEASE AND DESIST WASN’T ABOUT ? IT WAS ABOUT ????. ME AND TRAVIS RESOLVED IT AMONGST OURSELVES WEEKS AGO. ?
According to Frank, his issue pertained to homophobia, which likely stemmed from Transgender model Amanda Lepore being removed from his album cover art weeks ago. Travis has since issued a statement saying that he has nothing but respect for the LGBTQ community.
