XXXtentacion Left Out of Grammy Tribute Due to Domestic Violence Past
Fans of slain XXXtentacion were left sad, yet again. Every year, many award shows tribute the fallen entertainers of the previous year in an “In Memorium” segment. This was the case for last night’s Grammy Awards ceremony. XXXtentacion (real name, Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy) was not included in that segment due to his past with domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, whom he reportedly battered.

Prior to this year’s Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy president, Neil Portnow, was asked whether or not X would be included. He danced around the subject with the following response:
“I will tell you it’s a daunting challenge. We track those that we lose in our industry in any given year and then we have a process by which we go through it. Our on-air in memoriam — we’re lucky if we wind up [featuring] 10 to 15 percent of those we lose. Because it’s always hard choices.”
He continued:
“All of that is to say, I don’t have any answers for you now, but obviously artists who were prominent and well-known by the public are people who are recognized and we’ll just wind up having to see how it plays out.”
Fortunately for XXXtentacion’s family, he left something precious to remember him by. His son, Gekyume, was recently born.

Should XXXtentacion have been included in the Grammy tribute? Let us know in the comments.
