Chicago Police Say They Have Identified Persons Of Interest In Jussie Smollett Attack

It’s been two weeks since Empire star Jussie Smollett was the victim of a racist, homophobic attack in Chicago, while filming the hit FOX series. In that time, Smollett has returned to work and performed on stage, while a back and forth has ensued with Chicago police and the actor over phone records. Now, local authorities say they have identified persons of interest in the attack.

Chicago police have announced that detectives have identified and are questioning two persons of interest in connection with the attack on actor Jussie Smollett, who recently appeared on Good Morning America in his first televised interview since the incident.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi revealed publicly on social media the new details in the ongoing investigation, which now includes the questioning of two persons of interest, who he stressed are not yet suspects:

“Through meticulous investigation, #ChicagoPolice detectives have identified the persons of interest in the area of the alleged attack of the Empire cast member. These individuals are not yet suspects but were in area of concern and are being questioned. Investigation continues.”

Guglielmi continued adding that authorities are still in constant contact with Smollett:

“The people of interest are alleged to be in the area where a crime was reported. They are not considered suspects at this time as they are currently being questioned by detectives. We remain in communication with the alleged victim.”

Meanwhile on GMA this morning, Smollett addressed those who doubt his story, saying:

“It feels like, if I had said it was a Muslim, or a Mexican, or someone black. If feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot more, a lot more. And that says a lot about the place we are in our country right now.”
