Ella Mai Calls Out Jacquees Over ‘Trip’ Cover: I’d Be Embarrassed, Poor Thing!
Just when most were starting to forget about the feud between singers Ella Mai and Jacquees, she seems to have started it up again. This week, she shared a cryptic yet very subliminal tweet writing:
“I’d be so embarrassed if someone brung me on stage and the only thing i could sing was someone elses song because nobody knew my actual music. poor thing.”
While she didn’t name names, fans speculated that she was referring to Jaquees. He was at a Tory Lanez concert in London when Tory brought him on stage to sing. Jacquees’s song of choice was his controversial remix to Ella Mai’s song Trip.
He also seemed to respond to Ella Mai with a subliminal post of his own.
Lanez broke his silence on the fiasco and defended Jacquees’s latest performance and revealed he did more than just the Trip remix. Lanez wrote:
“I brought my lil brother out to HIS OWN S***… My n***a ain’t even wanna perform the remix .. matter fact he hate performing it … But I put him on the spot . Cuz I figured we was in London at the O2, 30,000 in the stands and bunch of kids was asking for the REMIX . On another note @jacquees U killed ALL the songs u performed tonight ! Keep shining my nigga ! ?: @midjordan#BlackExcellence

Jacquees and Ella Mai’s feud over the song dates back to September when Jacquees shared his own Trip remix on YouTube and Sound Cloud. He was ultimately forced to take it down after getting a cease-and-desist from Ella Mai’s people. After she faced criticism for being the one who made Jacquees remove the song, her producer DJ Mustard came forward and cleared the air as she was signed to his label, 10 Summers.
Mustard explained:
“Our artists don’t send cease and desists, we do. When you monetize content you don’t own you are stealing and no one steals from 10 Summers. Ella had no say in the matter and any platform reporting any differently is spreading falsities. This is simply a press or marketing plan, or some strategy to deviate from the narrative that Ella is breaking records left and right, because the music she’s making is cutting through straight to fans at a rate people haven’t seen in years. Ella’s career started by doing covers and we support all her fans and fellow artists doing the same. -@10summers”
He also added,
“I’m not going to blogs or any media outlets to address this Jacquees situation ima address it right here and after this we will never address anything like this again I’m just tired of people picking on @ellamai!”
Still, Ella Mai and Jacquees’s issues continued after Jacquees hinted that she blocked him on Instagram the next month.
Ella Mai later denied blocking him as she spoke on the feud in an interview.
“I didn’t play any role in the situation. My label made a statement and there’s not really much else to say about it. To be honest, people are going to take it how they want. [I care] somewhat because I don’t want people to think differently than what the situation actually is but a lot of it is that people don’t really know the ins and outs of the industry…You can’t believe everything you read. I never even followed him.”
