David Ortiz’s Gunmen Were Paid $7800 to Kill Him
Developments are quickly pouring in regarding the vicious shooting of former Boston Red Sox baseball player David Ortiz. All aged in their 20s, six suspected gunmen – Rolfi Ferreira Cruz, Joel Rodríguez Cruz, Porfirio Ayendi Dechamps Vásquez, Reynaldo Rodríguez Valenzuela, Oliver Moisés Mirabal, and Eddy Féliz García – have been taken into Dominican Republic police custody.
All six men were, reportedly, paid 400,000 Dominican pesos (about $7,800) to kill David Ortiz for reasons unknown. Rumors speculated that one of the men suspected David (nicknamed, Big Papi) of having an affair with his wife. Others claim they aimed to injure him. David’s assistant, Leo Lopez, speculated:
“It wasn’t a robbery. They didn’t ask for anything. It was a direct shot at David.”
In a recent press conference, prosecutor Jean Alain Rodríguez says this about the details of the case:
“We’ll get to the bottom of all the details of this crime, and all those involved will have to face the weight of the law.”
Security footage shows David Ortiz being attacked at Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – allegedly fired at from close range. He has undergone two drastic surgeries, including having his gallbladder and part of his intestines removed. His wife, Tiffany Ortiz, says he is making a recovery. He has even made a couple steps this week! She said:
“His condition is guarded and he will remain in the I.C.U. for the coming days, but he is making good progress towards recovery.”
