Beyonce’s “Lion King” Album Is A Love Letter To Africa – Features Jay Z, Blue Ivy Carter, Childish Gambino & Pharrell
Make way – new Queen Bey is on the way! Beyonce Knowles-Carter voices the character of Nala in the highly anticipated live-action movie, “The Lion King.” But she didn’t stop there! Beyonce executive produced her own soundtrack to the film called, “The Lion King: The Gift.” The album features the likes of Pharrell, Burna Boy, Childish Gambino, Tiwa Savage, Jay Z, and even Beyonce’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
Beyonce gave this official statement on “The Gift:”
“This is sonic cinema. This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.”

The “Lion King” is already shattering norms! She recently echoed those sentiments in a rare exclusive video interview with ABC News. Beyonce added:
“This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa- and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it. I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.”
She continued:
“A lot of drums and these incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America. We’ve kind of created our own genre and I feel like the soundtrack is the first soundtrack where it becomes visual in your in your mind. The soundscape is more than just the music because each song tells the story of the film.”
The music video for Beyonce’s first single from the soundtrack, “Spirit,” will exclusively premiere tonight (7/16/19) on Robin Roberts‘ special, “The Lion King: Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”
