Vanessa Bryant Urges Congress To Pass Helicopter Safety Bill Named After Kobe & Gianna
Vanessa Bryant is taking matters into her own hands. The wife of late NBA icon Kobe Bryant wants to ensure that what happened in January doesn’t happen to other families. Democratic lawmakers proposed a bill yesterday (6/18/20) urging Congress to pass a helicopter safety bill named after Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant. The bill would require all helicopters built to carry more than six people to be equipped with a Terrain Awareness and Warning System, a flight data recorder and a cockpit voice recorder.

Vanessa Bryant supported the proposal with this statement:
“I strongly urge that the United States Congress pass a federal law that would improve the safety of helicopters operating in this country. I believe there is a chance that Kobe and Gianna would still be alive today if their helicopter had been equipped with the safety equipment required by this pending federal legislation…Having Kobe’s and Gianna’s names associated with this federal law that has the potential to save countless lives would be a fitting tribute to their memory.”
She continued:
“I believe that these safety measures will save many lives…As passengers traveling on aircrafts we assume that proper safety measures are in order to prevent accidents from happening before we fly. It’s unfortunate that this is not the case and aircraft companies must do their part to protect lives.”
Certainly saving others from the outcome the Bryant family endured, will add to her healing. Recently, Vanessa Bryant and Natalia Bryant admitted to having to block Kobe Bryant fan pages on Instagram in order not to be constantly reminded of the tragedy.

As previously reported, Vanessa filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Island Express, the helicopter company utilized at Kobe’s and Gianna’s time of death. She says that the former Laker’s future earnings would equal hundreds of millions of dollars.
