Rev. Jesse Jackson Hospitalized For ‘Abdominal Discomfort’, Recovering After Successful Surgery
Rev. Jesse Jackson is in recovery mode after being hospitalized for what was described as “abdominal discomfort.”
According to reports, Jesse Jackson was admitted to the hospital to undergo a “routine medical observation” and had a “successful” surgery, Jesse Jackson’s nonprofit Rainbow PUSH Coalition said in a statement.
The full statement reads,
“Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr., founder and president of Rainbow PUSH Coalition, was recently admitted to the hospital for abdominal discomfort. After routine medical observation, successful surgery ensued, and Rev. Jackson is resting. He is in good spirits and will be discharged in a few days. Thank you for your continued love, support, and prayers.”
Jesse Jackson’s surgery comes more than three years after he announced that he had Parkinson’s disease.
He wrote in a statement in 2017 that his father also battled the incurable neurological condition:
“My family and I began to notice changes about three years ago. After a battery of tests, my physicians identified the issue as Parkinson’s disease, a disease that bested my father.”
He continued:
“Recognition of the effects of this disease on me has been painful, and I have been slow to grasp the gravity of it. For me, a Parkinson’s diagnosis is not a stop sign but rather a signal that I must make lifestyle changes and dedicate myself to physical therapy in hopes of slowing the disease’s progression.”
He added,
“This diagnosis is personal but it is more than that. It is an opportunity for me to use my voice to help in finding a cure for a disease that afflicts 7 to 10 million worldwide.”
He also pointed out that roughly 60,000 Americans receive Parkinson’s diagnosis each year.
