Mary J. Blige Speaks On Not Being Paid For Upcoming Super Bowl Performance: If You Was Paying, It Would Be A Lot Of Money

Many are excited to watch this year’s Super Bowl, which will take place on Sunday (Feb. 13) at the SoFi Stadium in California. In addition to seeing the Cincinnati Bengals suit up against the Los Angeles Rams, a lot of people will be tuning in to catch the halftime performance. As previously reported, this year’s halftime show will feature Dr. Dre, 56, Snoop Dogg, 50, Eminem, 49, Mary J. Blige, 51, and Kendrick Lamar, 34.

Despite the halftime show being a staple part of the Super Bowl experience, artists who perform during the annual playoff championship game are not financially compensated by the NFL. During a recent interview, Mary J. Blige addressed not being paid for her upcoming halftime performance and shared that she’s fine with it. She said,

“Listen, you’re going to get paid for the rest of your life off of this. People are going to be knocking at your [door].”

She continued,

“Listen, they don’t have to pay me but if you was paying, it would be a lot of money.”

She added,

“This is major.”

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime. Eminem said that in ‘Lose Yourself,’ this is an opportunity of a lifetime.”

Mary J. Blige previously dished on her highly anticipated Super Bowl performance last month and shared that out of her large catalog of music, she has to pick just one song to perform and is leaning towards selecting ‘Family Affair.’ She added,

“We are the culture. We give people a way to walk. We give people a way to talk. We give people a way to think.”
