The judge’s Supreme Court nomination was recently confirmed by the US Senate, making her the first Black woman in the court’s 233-year history to hold the esteemed position.
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is breaking down barriers! The former federal judge was the first Black female to be nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court. Today (Thursday, April 7), her nomination was confirmed by the US Senate in a 53-47 vote. Jackson is set to be sworn into the nation’s highest court this summer.

Senate Democrats, as well as two allied independents, unanimously voted for Jackson’s confirmation. Additionally, three Senate Republicans opted to support the judge’s nomination. Setting the voting scale in Jackson’s favor.

President Joe Biden, who shared a post-confirmation selfie with Judge Jackson online, tweeted the following about the “historic moment”:
“Judge Jackson’s confirmation was a historic moment for our nation. We’ve taken another step toward making our highest court reflect the diversity of America. She will be an incredible Justice, and I was honored to share this moment with her.”

Vice President Kamala Harris led the Senate confirmation, presiding over the vote. Sources say she was “overjoyed” by Jackson’s confirmation stating:
“I am feeling a deep sense of pride in who we are as a nation, that we just did what we did as it relates to the highest court of our land.”

Jackson, joined by the president and vice president, will deliver a speech on the significant vote on Friday (April, 8th) at 12:15 pm.
