Coolio Died of An Accidental Fentanyl Overdose, Also Had Meth & Heroin In His Body
It’s been about seven months since Coolio died, and his cause of death has been revealed.
The “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper (real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) passed away on September 28, 2022 from a accidental fentanyl overdose. He also had residues of methamphetamine and heroin in his body.
Severe asthma, cardiomyopathy — a congenital or acquired disorder of the heart muscle that can result in heart failure — and recent PCP usage are among the other key diseases stated on Coolio‘s death certificate.

As previously reported, Coolio was found dead on the the bathroom while visiting his friend’s house. The friend found him unconscious after going to the bathroom to check on him when he failed to respond to repeated verbal calls.
Law enforcement sources stated at the time that “no drugs or drug paraphernalia were found at the scene” and they did not suspect foul play when EMTs pronounced the rapper dead of a suspected heart attack.
Coolio reportedly died intestate, or without a will in place to dictate how he wanted to divide his fortunes up among his large family. theJasmineBRAND reported in 2022 that the late rapper’s former manager had filed a probate to begin the process of appraising his estate, which is said to be over $300,000 and includes
“personal property and demand deposit accounts, financial accounts, insurance policies and royalties.”
Coolio’s seven adult children — Brandi, Jackie, Melan, Christopher, Artis III, Darius and Artisha — are listed as the next of kin and probable beneficiaries. They’re reportedly preparing to perpetuate his musical legacy by honoring their father through documentaries and movies.
Fentanyl was first created in Belgium in the 1950s to help cancer patients control their pain. It has gained popularity among users of recreational drugs due to its tremendous strength. For the first time, heroin and regular opioids were surpassed in 2016 by overdose deaths related to synthetic opioids including fentanyl, which increased from about 10,000 in 2015.
Many people who overdose and pass away don’t realize they’re ingesting fentanyl since it is blended into other common narcotics. The sudden decline in life expectancy in America during the previous three years has been partially attributed to fentanyl.
theJasmineBRAND continues to send our condolences to all those who knew and loved Coolio. May he continue to rest in peace!
