Update: (Sep. 24, 2024): New information has surfaced surrounding Fatman Scoop’s shocking death.
The Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s Office revealed today (Sep. 24) that the beloved rapper and radio personality passed away as a result of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, ruling the death as natural.
As reported, on Aug. 30, Fatman Scoop made headlines after collapsing on stage while performing at a summer concert in Connecticut. The following day, his family released a statement confirming his passing. In part, they said,
“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop. Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”
Fatman Scoop was 53 at the time of his passing.

In a tragic turn of events, reports confirmed that the 53-year-old passed away suddenly over the weekend in the middle of a performance.
The family announced the musician’s death in a social media post uploaded to his official account Saturday (Aug. 31), writing:
“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop. Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”
It continued:
“FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage.”
The family went on to share that while they are mourning, they are also celebrating the life of a wonderful man – adding that his legacy is one of “love and brightness.”
According to several reports, Fatman Scoop collapsed on stage this past Friday (Aug. 30) during a show stop in Connecticut at Hamden Town Center Park. City official, Mayor Lauren Garrett, stated in a post on Facebook that the musician had a “medical, emergency,” noting that concertgoers and paramedics attempted to help him before ambulances rushed him to the hospital.
A Harlem native, Fatman Scoop first made his claim to fame in the late 90s and early 2000s with the release of his chart topping hit “Be Faithful” to the tune of Faith Evans’ “Love Like This” in ’99. After seeing success with the record in the U.S., the song would get a new life years later, landing the No. 1 spot on charts in U.K. and Ireland thanks to a re-release in 2003.
In the years since, Fatman Scoop has become known for lending his unique vocals to other chart-topping records, including features on Missy Elliot and Ciara’s 2005 collaboration “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That” released the same year. The musician has also worked with other artists such as Timbaland and David Guetta, and linked up with with Missy and Ciara back in 2018 again for a remix of the latter’s “Level Up.”
At this time, the official cause of Fatman Scoop’s death has not been released.
