Update: Bodycam Footage Of Miami Dolphins Player Tyreek Hill’s Arrest Surfaces, Shows Him Being Thrown To The Ground By Police

Update (Sept. 10): Bodycam footage of Tyreek Hill‘s arrest just hours before a Miami Dolphins game has surfaced. In the three-minute footage, officers are seen approaching Tyreek Hill’s vehicle and knocking on his tinted windows. He rolls down the window and tells the cop to stop knocking on his window. After a back and forth, he’s ultimately thrown to the ground. Throughout the clip, multiple officers also pull him down to the curb and yell at him. Tyreek Hill was on the phone with the Dolphins’ head of security, Drew Brooks, and repeatedly tells him he’s being arrested.

Original Story (Sept. 9): An officer has been placed on leave following Tyreek Hill’s detainment before the Dolphins’ season opener.

Just hours before Miami Dolphins’ star wide receiver Tyreek Hill took the field, he found himself detained by police near Hard Rock Stadium in what began as a traffic violation but quickly escalated.

Now, one of the officers involved is facing administrative leave, as Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced an internal investigation into the incident:

“Following the incident involving Tyreek Hill, I have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter. One of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted. I’m committed to transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers.”

The encounter occurred on Sunday morning, with Tyreek Hill being ticketed for reckless driving just a block away from the stadium. Although it’s unclear why the situation escalated, video footage showed Hill on the ground, handcuffed by police before being helped up. Hill was later released and managed to join his team just before kickoff.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, expressed frustration over the matter, stating:

“What happened today to Tyreek at the stadium is completely unacceptable… Tyreek did not deserve to be treated that way by the police involved.”

Rosenhaus also indicated that they would be considering legal action in response to the incident.

At a postgame press conference, Tyreek Hill reflected on the incident, saying,

“I wasn’t disrespectful because my mom didn’t raise me that way… Like I said, I’m still trying to figure it out.”

Teammates Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith were also briefly detained during the incident after attempting to step in and deescalate the situation. Campbell later told NFL Network,

“They put handcuffs on me too… I didn’t understand what the issue was.”

Amidst the drama, the Dolphins secured a 20-17 comeback victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hill played a pivotal role, scoring an 80-yard touchdown in the third quarter and celebrated by putting his hands behind his back as if handcuffed, seemingly referencing his earlier detainment.

While the MDPD conducts its investigation, Tyreek Hill continues to speak out about the situation, recently tweeting:

“When you him nothing can stop you.”

The 30-year-old NFL star also shared a meme featuring Michael Jordan’s crying face on a police officer’s body, captioned:

“The face you make when that administrative leave kicks in…”
