Nicki Minaj Takes Several Shots At Jay-Z Over Kendrick Lamar Being Selected For Super Bowl Halftime Show Instead Of Lil Wayne

Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance already has the industry buzzing.

One person not here for Kendrick Lamar taking the stage on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana is Nicki Minaj. Moments ago the rap star took to X (formally Twitter) and fired off multiple posts getting everything off her chest. Her remarks started off cryptic, not really clarifying who she was speaking about or what made her mad.

She wrote,

“I love watching the whole industry play dumb time after time. lol. The truth is the truth no matter who tells it. Picking & choosing who yall accept truth from then BAM! Pow! Ex might tell you a joke but won’t tell you a lie. Bwahahahaaha. #DTLR”

In another post, Nicki Minaj, 41, had more to say regarding an unnamed person. Responding to a fan who came to her defense, the rapper/singer said,

“Yup. And I never care by the time they figure it out. LMFAO. It’s good for them. #GagCityDC yall Rdy?!?!! Yall know his next move is going to be to tell yall a “certain someone” is being treated soooooo unfairly so that yall can go back into that trance. #DTLR”

Although she started off being somewhat mysterious about who the shots were meant for, it wasn’t long until internet users felt the rant was aimed at hip-hop veteran Jay-Z and his record label Roc Nation. In one post, Nicki seemingly mentioned the label’s annual exclusive pre-Grammy Awards event, widely known as the Roc Nation Brunch.

As reported, news broke on Sunday (Sep. 8) that Jay-Z selected Kendrick Lamar for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show. You may recall that the “Run This Town” rapper and his company Roc Nation entered a partnership with the NFL in 2019 and became the league’s Live Music Entertainment Strategist.

Many were excited about Jay-Z’s recent pick, however, others strongly felt Lil Wayne should have been chosen because he’s from New Orleans.

Nicki continued,

“Oh you think speaking up on injustice within your work place should only be done if it’s for a person who would do it for you? Im rlly the realest n*gg*. Wow. #GagCityDC TONIGHT. #DTLR” 

Making her issue more clear, she furthered,

“Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!! Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. Sh*t sad. House N*GG*R TINGZ. but it’s GOOD FI DEM!!!!!! No loyalty ? Welp. then n*gg*z will keep son’ing you!!!!! #DTLR #GagCityDC LMFAOOOOOOOOOO GOODAZ FI DEL GAL U AH GOODAZ FI DEM.”

She then gave Lil Wayne his flowers for his impact on the music industry.

“And btw, you don’t know the half of what lil Wayne has done for me & others. Wayne had drake & I on his tour w/no papers signed. He was on all of my mixtapes w/no papers signed. This man has literally changed the FACE of hip hop. The hair too. IYKYK. He inspired so many to tat their faces & get locks.
