Russell Simmons Wants Judge To Toss Former Employee’s Assault Case As He’s ‘Stateless’ & ‘Retired’ In Indonesia
Russell Simmons is seeking to have one of his sexual assault cases thrown out on the grounds that he’s a “stateless” citizen.
According to Rolling Stone, Simmons recently responded to a complaint filed by one of his former Def Jam employees, arguing that the suit can’t be filed in a federal New York court because he’s now a “stateless” U.S. citizen who’s technically “retired” in Indonesia.
Jane Doe alleged in the suit, filed last February, that Simmons raped her in his New York apartment in the 90s.
In response to Simmons’ claims of being stateless, Doe pleaded with the judge to allow the case to move forward and questioned the validity of his statements, writing in a motion:
“Defendant is running from the court’s jurisdiction to avoid taking accountability for his actions.”
Adding:
“He testified that he is building a business empire and needs a partner for his current projects but is thwarted in his active efforts in Dubai and Singapore because of the morality clauses those countries require.”

She furthered:
“Actively building an empire means that defendant is ineligible for a retirement visa in Indonesia…Any purported retirement visa requires recertification every few years that one is, in fact, retired. Building an empire and being retired are mutually exclusive.”
Simmons reportedly told the court that he sold all his U.S. properties and now lives fully and legitimately in Bali under a permanent retirement visa granted by Indonesian authorities.
