70-Year-Old Man Granted Bond After Allegedly Firing Sh*ts At Atlanta Police, Must Undergo Mental Health Evaluation
Jay Berger, the 70-year-old retired ophthalmologist accused of firing sh*ts at officers from his midtown Atlanta condo, has been granted bond.
Berger, facing charges including six counts of aggravated ass*ult on law enforcement, was initially denied bond in November due to being considered a “significant danger.” However, on Tuesday (Nov. 26), the court set a $101,000 bond with strict conditions: no access to weapons, dr*gs, or alc*hol, 24-hour house arrest with exceptions for legal, medical, and church visits on Sundays, and an ankle monitor.
He will also undergo a psychological evaluation and stay away from his condo and the residential manager he allegedly threatened.

Defense Attorney Stuart Mones argued that Berger’s actions were the result of a mental health episode, citing his history of concussions and PTSD. However, Deputy District Attorney John Turner argued that Berger’s actions were a “crime spree” and that he posed a threat to the community.
The incident occurred on October 29 when Berger allegedly threw items into the hallway of his condo building, pointed a g*n at the building manager, barricaded himself inside, and fired sh*ts at officers responding to the scene, injuring one before being sh*t by a sniper.
