Reports indicate that organized crime and the international drug trade are major factors, fueled by Trinidad’s proximity to Venezuela and its role as a narcotics hub.
The latest incident saw five men k*lled in Laventille, allegedly in retaliation for a gang-related murder.
Details of the emergency measures are still unclear as the country approaches its 2025 general election, with Rowley’s People’s National Movement facing opposition from former Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s United National Congress.
