Serena Williams Shuts Down Speculation That Her Super Bowl Dance Was Shade Toward Drake: ‘Absolutely Not’
Serena Williams says her viral Super Bowl appearance had nothing to do with Drake.
In a new interview with Time, the tennis legend addressed the speculation that her Crip Walk during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance of “Not Like Us” was a subtle jab at her ex. She said,
“Obviously I can see how someone would think that, but absolutely not. I have never had negative feelings towards him. We’ve known him for so many years.”

As for critics who questioned the optics of her dissing an ex while married, Serena made it clear she wasn’t concerned:
“We’re investing in women and in sports. This is literally the last thing on our minds. Come on.”
Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, previously addressed the situation by pointing out Serena’s history with the dance move:
“Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows.”
