Gospel Great Mama Mosie Burks Of Mississippi Mass Choir Passes Away At 92

 

Mama Mosie Burks, the voice of the Mississippi Mass Choir, has died at 92.

The group announced the news on Facebook, writing:

“Mama Mosie’s powerful voice, unshakable faith and joyful spirit touched hearts around the world and helped define the sound and soul of the Mississippi Mass Choir… Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”

Burks lent her vocals to classics like “They Got the Word,” “I’m Not Tired Yet,” and “This Morning When I Rose,” cementing her place in the gospel music community.

Funeral arrangements are in progress.
