Serena Williams Faces Backlash Over New Ad Promoting Weight Loss Dr*g
Serena Williams is catching some heat from fans who say they’re “disappointed” by her new weight loss dr*g ad.
Shortly after Serena debuted her partnership with the company Ro, which sells GLP-1 weight loss medication, critics began flooding her comments section with disapproval over her public support of the product.
Some took issue with the language used in the commercial, specifically slamming lines like “After kids, it’s the medicine my body needed” and “This is healthcare.” Others voiced concern that the message might negatively impact women struggling with body acceptance, arguing that while the tennis champion has every right to use the medication, she doesn’t need to promote it.
Weight loss drugs have been a hot-button topic in recent years, with other celebrities like Oprah Winfrey also publicly endorsing them. Just days ago, Serena opened up about how GLP-1s have helped transform her body after having two children, revealing that she lost over 30 pounds and felt it was “a good decision.”
Do you agree with Serena’s critics, or are they taking things too far?
