Cynthia Erivo has spoken out for the first time about the troubling incident involving her #Wicked co-star, Ariana Grande, at the Asian-Pacific premiere of Wicked: For Good in Singapore on Nov. 13. As reported, during the event, a fan jumped over the barricade and grabbed Ariana by the shoulders as she walked the themed carpet. Cynthia was the first to intervene, quickly coming to Ariana’s defense. Soon after, security stepped in.
Speaking on the scary situation with TODAY, Cynthia said, “I was really thinking, I just wanted to make sure my friend was safe.” She added, “I’m sure he didn’t mean us harm, but I just, you never know with those things and I wanted to make sure that she was okay. That was my first instinct.” The man, who has a history of rushing celebrities, was sentenced to 9 days behind bars for the incident.
